From Pedagogical Solitude to Pedagogical Solidarity: Teaching Better Together
Many college instructors face growing demands on their knowledge, skills, time, and emotional labor. Collegial community can strengthen both teaching and well-being, yet it is often unclear how to build these connections. Drawing on the speaker’s professional pathway, experiences building a Teaching and Learning Center, and scholarship on teaching and learning, this session makes the case for pedagogical solidarity: teaching as a shared, values-driven practice that counters isolation and supports more sustainable, effective teaching. Participants will reflect on shared experiences and explore practical ways to support one another’s growth.

DIVERSITY COMMITMENT

Lancaster Learns is committed to providing an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment for all participants to discuss ideas relating to education. Participants should recognize and respect the diversity of opinions and beliefs that are brought together when multiple institutions with distinct missions engage in intentional collaboration. Part of the strength and uniqueness of our collaboration is that we offer an educational setting that values open intellectual engagement with ideas, pedagogies, and persons that may differ from our own experiences. Thus, the goal of Lancaster Learns is to support a community-based collaborative effort to further the advancement of quality teaching and learning. During this collaborative process, it should be recognized that the individuality of each institution remains intact in regards to its policies and mission.
